Invention Guidelines
- The invention must be that of a single or pair of inventors.
- The invention must be the original work of the student or students. Invent means invent!
- An entry may be either a new product or an improvement to a previously existing invention. Ask your Mom, Dad or guardian before you cut into something!
- The student(s) must produce either a functioning prototype or a model of the invention. An inventor's log book should be used to document the process from the idea to the prototype or model. Be sure to include things that don't work--real inventors keep track of this to help them in the future.
- Written information on the Expo display board may include the title, statements of purpose, diagrams, descriptions of how the invention works and or statements of how the invention would improve life now or in the future. Be sure to have fun with your display!
- You are on the right track if you are having fun and learning too!!!!
Challenge yourself to design the most extraordinary gizmo or gadget aimed at solving life’s most puzzling problems!!!
How to Keep an Inventor’s Log Book
- Keep records of your concepts, tests and other information related to making your invention. You can start from the very first moment you think of an idea.
- You can buy a bound notebook or make one yourself.
- Number all of your pages consecutively.
- Every entry should be dated and signed by the participants.
- Use a header for each entry with the following information; date, project, subject, participant(s), signature(s).
- The more details the better; make sure that any person could understand what you did.
- Make records of everything (include all the tests you did, not just the successful ones). Add all of your sketches and computations.
- If you can, tape or staple any loose materials not attached to your board, into the notebook as any entry.
- Keep everything – samples, models etc. and label with a date. Attach to your notebook or to the display board.
- Have fun, fun, fun! We can't wait to see your invention!
